13 year-old girl drowns at Island Park

Racine Police along with Racine Rescue were called to the area of Island Park, 1700 Liberty St., in response to a possible drowning. Racine Police Officers pulled a 13 year old female out of the river near the south baseball diamond. The female was unresponsive at the time. Racine Rescue attempted to revive her but attempts were unsuccessful.

Initial investigation showed that the female was playing with her 9 year old cousin near the river. It is unclear on whether she jumped in the river or she fell in but once the 13 year old entered the river she was submerged and her 9 year old cousin left to find an adult to call for help. There is nothing suspicious expected but the investigation is ongoing. There is no further information being released at this time.
