18 year-old Racine man charged with multiple felonies after shots fired call on Charles Street

deone downs Deon P Downs, 18 of Racine has been charged with four counts of 1st-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Possess Firearm-Convicted of a Felony, two counts of Bail Jumping-Felony and two counts of Bail Jumping-Misdemeanor. He was given a $50,000 cash bond after appearing in Racine Circuit Courts on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the criminal complaint on May 13, 2016 Racine Police were dispatched to the 1600 block of Charles Street, for reports of shots fired. Upon arrival officers spoke with witnesses who heard the shots fired that stated that they saw a large group of kids running south on the street yelling “put the gun away”. Witnesses saw the defendant step off a porch of a residence in the 1600 block of Charles with a black handgun and fire multiple shots towards a group of kid playing basketball.

The complaint states that Investigators interviewed the defendant who stated that two individuals walked up to his residence. The complaint states that the defendant is allegedly a gang member with the Dirty P’s who are based on the southside but he lives on the northside. The individuals stated they were calling their “squad” and a short time later a vehicle pulled up and multiple individuals exited the vehicle one allegedly armed with a 45 handgun.

According to the complaint a friend of the defendants pulled up and handed him a 22 caliber handgun. The individual armed with the 45 aimed it at the defendant and shot, and the defendant allegedly fired shots at them and fled in a vehicle.
