1822 – U.S. Congressman Ithamar Conkey Sloan Born

On this date, Ithamar Conkey Sloan, brother of Andrew Scott Sloan, was born in Morrisville, N.Y. He moved to Janesville, Wisconsin in 1854 where he practiced law. He served as district attorney of Rock County from 1858 to 1862 and was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-eighth and Thirty-ninth Congresses (March 4, 1863-March 3, 1867). Sloan moved to Madison in 1875 and served as dean of the law department of the University of Wisconsin. He also served as special counsel for the State of Wisconsin from 1874 to 1879 in the Granger law cases. Sloan died in Janesville, Rock County on December 24, 1898, and is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery. [Source: ]
