1838 – Henry Smith Born

On this date, Henry Smith was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin with his parents in 1844. Smith served as a member of the common council of Milwaukee from 1868 to 1872. He also served in the State assembly in the common council. Smith served as city comptroller from 1882 to 1884 and was elected as a Labor Party candidate to the Fiftieth Congress (March 4, 1887-March 3, 1889). After an unsuccessful attempt at re-election, Smith worked as an architect and builder. He was elected as a member of the board of aldermen of Milwaukee in 1898 and served until his death in Milwaukee on September 16, 1916. [Source: ]
