1849 – Frank J. Weber Born

On this date Frank J. Weber was born near Milwaukee. A pioneer member of , Weber organized the in 1887 and served as its secretary until he retired in 1934. He also founded the Wisconsin State Federation of Labor in June 1893. Weber organized lumber handlers into the American Federation of Labor Longshoreman’s unions. He organized seamen’s unions for the Knights of Labor and the brewery workers in Milwaukee in 1891. Weber served eight years in the legislature and was a leading figure in the fight for the Workingmen’s Compensation Act, old age pensions, and other progressive legislation. [Source: and , p.28]
