On this date songwriter was born in Janesville, Wisconsin. As a young child, she learned the piano and could recite songs upon hearing them once. Her most popular songs were “I Love You Truly” (1901) and “A Perfect Day” (1910). She became America’s premier popular songwriter despite chronic rheumatism and being a widowed single mother. Facing severe poverty and sickness, Bond by chance met a song publisher in 1900 and began her successful career.
