1960 – Amanda Freedy Zimmerman Dies

On this date Amanda Freedy Zimmerman, wife of Governor Frederick Robert Zimmerman, died in Milwaukee. She was born on January 6, 1882, in Raymond township, Racine County. In Milwaukee, she met and married a local milk dealer, Frederick Robert Zimmerman. She served as first lady of Wisconsin from 1927 to 1929. The Zimmerman’s raised two sons, Robert Charles and Frederick Underwood. Amanda Zimmerman was an enthusiast of floriculture and won garden club prizes for her zinnias. She was an accomplished pianist and in her later years, studied the pipe organ at UW School of Music. Amanda Freedy Zimmerman is buried in Forest Home Cemetery in Milwaukee. [Source: by Nancy G.
