Commitee Decides To Hold Special Election

By The Racine News Team

Racine – The Racine City Committee of the Whole held a meeting tonight in reference to filling the vacancy for the  Office of Mayor. They voted to hold a primary election on May 5, 2009 if needed, instead of April’s elections. This will allows citizens more time to get to know the candidates before a possible mayoral election on June 2. The election will determine who is mayor until 2011, when Ex-Mayor Gary Becker’s term would have ended. Currently David L. Maack will still be the  acting Mayor of Racine. The Committee of the Whole council members have decided to meet again next Thursday, Jan. 29,2009  at 6:00 p.m. This meeting is to devise a process to fill the vacant Mayor’s chair until the election can be held. Nothing will be official until the Council meets at its regular meeting date in February to finalize all the details. The election could cost around $40,000.
