49 year-old Racine man charged after stealing a lot of candy

handcuffs Derrick L Jeter, 49 of Racine has been charged with Retail Theft – Intentionally Conceal (<=$500), Possess Drug Paraphernalia, and three counts of Bail Jumping-Felony. He was given a $750 cash bond after appearing in Racine Circuit Courts. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 19, 2016

According to the criminal complaint, on May 6,2016 Racine Police responded to the Sunshine Supermarket at 1559 Taylor Ave for calls reference a shoplifter who was fighting with employees. When officers arrived and took the defendant into custody they recovered which they believed was a crack pipe from him which had burned ends on the item. Officers made contact with the victim who stated that over the past several days the defendant was coming into the store and stealing candy. The store believes that the defendant stole approximately $300 in candy. The victim stated that today the defendant came into the store and he observed the defendant placing items in his bag before he was stopped by employees.

Officers located the defendants bag and observed 34 Mounds candy bars, 27 Slim Jims and 30 M&M’s. Records show that the defendant had a warrant for possession of burglary tools, and possession of drug paraphernalia, was out on bond and had failed to appear during a February 2015 Court hearing, the complaint states
