$50,000 bond for Illinois man charged with multiple child sex crimes

Joseph F Verna, 51 of Plainfield Illinois has been charged with Use a Computer to Facilitate a Child Sex Crime,Child Enticement-Sexual Contact, 2nd Degree Sexual Assault of Child, and four counts of Possession of Child Pornography. He is being held on $50,000 bond after making his initial appearance in Racine Circuit Court. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10-29-2015.

On 10/22/15 Racine County Sheriff’s Investigators conducted an undercover operation in eastern Racine County. The operation involved a 52 year old male who was engaging in sexually explicit conversations with a subject he believed was a 15 year old female.

Through the course of the operation, the suspect identified as Joseph F. Verna M/W 08/09/63 made arrangements to meet with the juvenile in order to engage in sexual activity. Verna, a resident of Plainfield, Illinois traveled to a pre-designated location where he believed he was meeting the juvenile, and was subsequently taken into custody by Sheriff’s Investigators.

According to the criminal complaint in addition to admitting he believed he was talking to a 15 year old on the internet, he drove to a hotel in Racine the night before believing that he was going to have sex with the 15 year old girl he had been speaking to. He also admitted that there was child pornography on his lap top computer. The Racine County Sheriff’s Department states that they previewed his computer and found dozens of child pornography photos. Investigators with the Racine County Sheriff’s Department recovered 4 images of children between the ages of 3-9 in sexually graphic photos. Investigators will be doing further analysis to catalog and document the images
