$500,000 bond for suspect charged in fatal accident that killed 2 people

Ramone Campbell, 30 of Racine has been charged with two counts of 1st-Degree Reckless Homicide, two counts of Hit and Run-Involve Death, Reckless Driving-Cause Great Bodily Harm, Hit and Run-Involve Injury, Reckless Driving-Cause Bodily Harm and Resisting or Obstructing an Officer. His bond was set at $500,000 after making his initial appearance in Racine Circuit Court. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 1st.

According to the criminal complaint, Racine Police responded to an accident in the 100 block of Main Street at 1:54 a.m. for an accident that involved fatalities. The criminal complaint states that the defendant was speeding and drive recklessly, lost control of his vehicle and collided with the victims vehicle. 2 succumbed to their injuries and a third at currently at Froedert Hospital.The complaint states that the defendant tried to flee from the scene but was caught by a security officer with Metro Security working in the downtown area and that he tried to give Racine Police a false name. When questioned by police as to why he ran he stated that he knew he had a child support warrant and a P.O. hold and didn’t want to get locked up.

The complaint states that Racine Police spoke to the defendant where he stated ” He had four Miller beers and three shots of Cognac while at a party. He also reportedly admitted he smoked weed on Saturday morning and had done cocaine the evening before on Friday.” The complaint states that a passenger who was in the defendants vehicle stated that the defendant after the party got him to go to Kenny’s Bar. The witness stated that after they left the bar the defendant began speeding through the neighborhood side streets running stop signs. The witness also stated that the defendant was driving around 50-60 mph.
