Santa in a Shoebox kicks off their 7th year November 16th! Diana Higgenbottom who started the program in her home seven years ago, has grown to multiple locations collecting shoe boxes and hundreds of lives affected in small but wonderful ways!
Diana states that “Each shoebox has to be geared toward a woman, man, little boy or little girl,” adding that the person making the box can decide which group it will go to. “I don’t know what they’re going to be filled with. It might be personal items. It’s whatever fits in there.”
The idea is simple. Empty shoeboxes are filled with items geared towards a man, woman, teen or child. Gifts include toys, gift cards, candy, crayons, coloring books, toiletries, tooth brushes, gloves, socks, books or anything you can think of that will fit into a shoebox! The shoeboxes go to those in need in the community; veterans, homeless, and those truly in need! Boxes are accepted wrapped or unwrapped and are divided by man/woman or boy/girl. Then are further defined by the following categories:
-Babies to age 2
-Ages 3 to 5
-Ages 6 to 9
(This year the need is very high for males pre-teen thru teen, seniors and veterans)
Malicki’s Piggly Wiggly located at 5201 Washington will start their round up program with customers beginning November 1, 2015. Shoeboxes can be dropped off at Piggly Wiggly at 5201 Washington Ave, Racine Harley Davidson and Javier’s Cuisine located at 2011 Lathrop Ave.
