Bella is an approx 3 yr old (est DOB 12/12/2012) spayed female Retriever mix weighing in at approx 55 lbs and is fully grown. She was rescued from a small, rural high kill shelter in Oklahoma. Found as a starving stray, Bella is now safe in a foster home where she is loving all the attention she’s been getting. She feels loved and in turn shares that love with everyone she meets! She is good with other dogs and kids, cats unknown. She is a low-moderate energy dog.
Bella was previously adopted but has made her way back to Lucky Mutts Rescue. Unfortunately, what we initially believed was anxiety while crated is actually a rather severe case of isolation anxiety. Bella truly believes she is going to die if she cannot visualize the whereabouts of her family- and that she’s in a fight for her life to find them. While it is possible to work with her to overcome this fear, it is rather time consuming and her previous family is unable to work that closely with her. Her ideal placement at this point is with someone home the majority of the time or someone who can get her certified as a therapy dog so she can go anywhere they go. Our trainer has informed us that overcoming this kind of anxiety is a slow process and may take several months. Our trainer will gladly provide suggestions to any potential adopters on how they can work with Bella to overcome this intense fear.
It should be noted that Bella gladly naps in her crate while her family is home and has been a fantastic, loving house guest otherwise. They were very heartbroken to return her to the rescue but we are all confident the right family is out there that can devote a bit more time to helping her work thru this. Given her issues, Bella’s adoption fee has been reduced to $100+tax which includes spay, rabies/distemper/bordetella vaccines, microchip, dewormed, heartworm negative and on preventative and health certificate from veterinarian.
