Swagger is an approx 1 yr old (est DOB 03/25/2015) soon to be neutered Australian Shepherd mix weighing in at approx 45 lbs and is fully grown. Swagger arrived in WI February 13th, rescued from rural Oklahoma. He is being fostered in Racine. Swagger and two other dogs were found living on the property of a foreclosed home. They had been there several weeks on their own. The realtor showing the property offered to “dispose of them.” These three dogs have been shot at with BB guns and were forced to seek shelter under the deck at the property until that flooded during the December rain storms. Local animal advocates brought them straw to make a makeshift shelter for them until rescue could be found. As the Oklahoma weather became colder, Swagger and the others were rounded up and moved to an outdoor, mostly unsupervised boarding facility in hopes of buying them even more time to locate a rescue. Unfortunately, due to an overpopulation of dogs in the southern states, local Oklahoma rescues were unable to step up and help, so we here in WI did! Swagger is best described as a goofball.
He’s a fun loving, happy all the time, glass is half full kind of dog looking for someone who loves to laugh and play. You must have a great sense of humor and a bunch of tennis balls to bring Swagger into your life. Swagger is an active, playful dog and would love to go to a family where there is already an active, playful resident dog. Smart and eager to please, training Swagger should be a breeze. He loves to run and leap thru the air, so he has great potential to be a frisbee catching dog. Swagger is dog/kid/cat friendly. He is crate trained and is doing great on the house training. He is excitable upon first meeting new people or upon the start of a walk, but calms down quickly. He rides well in a car.
**Swagger is listed as special needs as he has had his right ear surgically amputated. He was injured down in Oklahoma when he got into a scuffle over food with a dog who we now know is food aggressive towards other dogs. Swagger will be more prone to getting dirt/debris in his ear-making him more prone to ear infections- so will require frequent monitoring and cleansing of his ear.** We will update Swagger’s photos and bio as we learn more about him. Swagger’s adoption fee of $350+tax includes neuter, rabies/distemper/bordetella vaccines, microchip, dewormed, heartworm negative and on preventative and health certificate from veterinarian.
