Meet Lucy: Lucy is a 20 month old (DOB 4/27/2014) spayed female Australian Cattle Dog (Red Heeler) & Labrador Retriever mix. Lucy weighs in at approx. 50lbs and is fully grown. Lucy came to our rescue as an owner surrender. The family didn’t do their research on the breed and were very unprepared for life with a young cattle dog. Lucy is energetic and intelligent with an independent streak. She responds well to structured training, particularly if it is interesting and challenging. She was lacking this in her former home and has made some major improvements in her time at her foster home. Like most cattle dogs, Lucy forms a strong attachment to her owners, and can be protective of them and their possessions. Lucy has been around children age 10 and older and has done well. We would not recommend her to a family with very young children only because of her intense play style.
Lucy absolutely loves to play! Anything and everything is fun and can be turned into a game. She loves to fetch (and retrieve) balls, rope toys, frisbees, etc. She enjoys playing tug and is very strong so she usually wins. She loves water and will chase after the stream from a garden hose or romp around in the kiddie pool. Lucy is great with other dogs although she can wrestle a bit rough- so a dog of similar size and energy level would be ideal. Lucy goes to doggie daycare and the local dog park frequently and does very well with all the dogs. She walks well on a leash with a harness and enjoys car rides. Lucy can (and frequently does) climb a 4ft chainlink fence-walks around the house-and sits at the front door eager to return to the company of her foster parents. She is a “velcro” dog and always wants to be in close physical proximity to her people.
She is crate trained and housebroken. Her coat is easy to groom and maintain, requiring little more than brushing during the shedding period. If you’re looking for an active dog that enjoys doing whatever you like to do- then Lucy may be the ideal dog for you! She is being fostered in Racine. Her adoption fee of $125+tax includes spay, rabies/distemper/bordetella vaccines, microchip with lifetime registration, heartworm negative and on preventative, and health certificate from veterinarian.
