Arrest made after police respond for calls for a man using a screwdriver as a weapon

James Bartlett-RCJ[/caption] James Bartlett, 40 of Racine has been charged with Disorderly Conduct (misdemeanor) and three counts of misdemeanor Bail Jumping.

According to the criminal complaint on March 1, 2016 Mount Pleasant Police were dispatch to the Knights Inn 1149 Oakes Road, for a person who was punching holes in the walls with a screwdriver and who had a straight blade screwdriver and was using it as a weapon.

Upon arrive the officer found the door to a unit open and saw the defendant sitting on the bed with a screwdriver within his reach. The defendant was taken into custody and Mount Pleasant Police detected the odor of intoxicants coming from the defendant. The defendant was uncooperative and threatening towards officers at the scene. While en route to the Racine County Jail, the defendant allegedly told the officer he had drank six “Milwaukee’s Best” beers on an empty stomach.

Officers spoke with a witness who stated that the defendant had been drinking heavily, suddenly grabbed a screwdriver and starting yelling “I’m going to kill someone. I’m going to kill a cop!” The witness became fearful and ran to the front office to call 911, the complaint states.

A review of the defendants court files, shows he is out on bond for 3 criminal cases. Part of his bond conditions were that he commit no new crimes and not consume any alcohol. He also made his return on warrant appearance for February 2016 open case for criminal damage to property he is accused of at Knights Inn.
