Keller G. McQuay, 14, of the 1900 block of Green Street, has been charged as an adult on Monday with first-degree reckless homicide, possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a short-barreled rifle/shotgun in the shooting death of Vista Jackson, Thursday night in the 1000 block of Albert Street. He is being held on $250,000 cash bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 23rd.
According to the criminal complaint a witness who was in the residence heard the defendant tell the victim Vista Jackson he loved her and she replied the same, shortly after a “pop” was heard. The defendant did flee the scene after the gun went off.
According to the criminal complaint, a round from a sawed-off rifle entered Jackson’s chin before passing through her throat and upper chest area, went through her left lung and then her heart. The victim who was bleeding ran up to the witness saying, “help me.”
The complaint states a resident in the neighborhood discovered a firearm laying next to her fence while doing yard work. Police recovered a bolt action Marlin .22 caliber and according to reports the rifle’s wooden stock had been sawed off as was the barrel.
