Downed power lines cause Tuesday afternoon fire on Erie Street

RFD logoOn Tuesday July 12th shortly after 1 p.m. the Racine Fire Department responded to calls for a structure fire in the 3400 block of Erie Street. Downed energized power lines were the cause of an afternoon fire on Erie St. The downed lines fell across a garage roof and came in contact with the electrical system within the garge. This system is connected to the home and started a fire in the wall of the kitchen. The crews had to find all of the spot fires within the house. Because of the heat the Racine Fire Bells were called in to assist  the firefighters with drinking water and cooling measures. WE Energies is still on scene repairing service to the neighborhood. Family members are helping with temporary living arrangements. Fire officials state that the fire caused $30,000 in damages
