Driver charged with homicide by intoxicated use of vehicle after June 25th crash

handcuffsLakiara N Silas, 36 of Racine has been charged with Homicide by Intoxicated Use of Vehicle, Homicide by Use of Vehicle with PAC, Injury by Intoxicated Use/Vehicle, Injury by Use of Vehicle with PAC. She was given a $25,000 cash bond after making her initial appearance in Racine Circuit Courts Wednesday afternoon.

According to the criminal complaint on June 25, 2015, at 1:05 a.m. Racine Police responded to the 1100 block of Marquette for an accident with injuries. Upon arrival officers discovered an SUV that had smashed into a telephone pole and parties trapped inside. After being extracted, the passengers were taken to Froedert Hospital in Milwaukee and the driver was taken to Wheaten Franciscan All Saints.

Witnesses interviewed seeing the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and driving erratically. One of the patients had advised officers that they were at a birthday party earlier and had been drinking. The driver was taken by Flight For Life from All Saints to Froedert Hospital and a blood draw was done. Investigators secured the test results and the BAC was .163 g/dl and further revealed opiates in her system.

On June 27,2016 one of the passengers was pronounced deceased from the injuries suffered in the accident. The other passenger suffered broken ribs, possible fractured vertebrae and damage to one of her lungs
