Monday morning, Racine Firefighters provided all students of Janes School with winter coats. They held their “Operation Warm” project which raises money to provide local area students with warm U.S. made coats for winter. The driving force behind this years was fire fighter Tim O’Brien. Between fundraisers and working with local companies they raised $11,000 and all 305 students at Janes School located at 1425 N. Wisconsin were greeted this morning with some great fire fighters and warm coats.
We spoke with one parent-Jamie Durik who was so thrilled that this school was chosen because the need is great for many students that attend that may not otherwise have a warm coat for winter. Some teachers were moved to tears watching fire fighters pass out the coats. Many students when they received their coats put them on and didn’t take them off.
One thing for sure, the great shines again in Racine, not only were children provided warm coats, it warmed the hearts of many adults (including myself) and there were hundreds and hundreds of smiles! Thank you to all fire fighters for what you do on the job and in the community!
