K9 Nitro, Friday and Racine County Deputies catch driver after he crashes at 100 mph and flees on foot

police lightsOn Friday April 15,2016, the Racine County Communications Center received a call from complainant who stated a vehicle passed him at approximately 100 mph and crashed on ST 83/Pine Street, north of Schaal Road in Burlington. Concerned citizens stopped to help the operator of the crashed vehicle, which severely damaged and came to rest upside down. The operator of the vehicle, fled the scene on foot when he heard emergency vehicles responding.

Racine Sheriff’s K-9 Nitro and K-9 Friday responded to the scene with their handlers. The K-9’s along with Deputies used thermal night vision, tracked the suspect over 1/4 of a mile through fields and wooded areas. The operator was taken into custody. The suspect 23, of Kenosha was not seriously injured in the crash. He is being held on numerous traffic charges including OWI 2nd offense, no drivers license, drug related charges and the Department of Correction has placed a hold on him for violating his conditions of probation.

Racine County Deputies received assistance from the Town of Burlington Fire Department who helped with traffic control at the scene of the accident and provided an off road utility vehicle to aid in the search of the suspect
