Man charged after assaulting neighbor with baseball bat & police find crack cocaine

garry-petty Gary L Petty, 61 of Racine has been charged with Aggravated Battery Use of a Dangerous Weapon and Possess w/Intent-Cocaine (>40g)Second or Subsequent Offense, Possession with Intent to Deliver/Distribute a Controlled Substance On or Near a Park. He was given a $15,000 cash bond after appearing in Racine Circuit Courts on Wednesday afternoon. His Preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 15, 2016

According to the criminal complaint, on September 6,2015 Racine Police responded to calls for an assault in progress in the 2200 block of Washington Ave. Dispatch advised the suspect had hit the victim in the arm with baseball bat and stated that the victim told them that the defendant had pointed a small handgun at them.

Upon arrival officers observed the suspect matching the clothing description running in the area. The defendant was detained and gave permission for officers to search his apartment for a handgun. Officers noted that no handgun was located by the baseball bat described in the assault was found in his apartment.

The criminal complaint states that officers spoke to the victim who stated that she had asked when the defendant was going to pay her back the money he owed her and the defendant allegedly became very angry threatening the victim and then assaulting her with the baseball bat hitting her several times. The victim states that the defendant then ran into his apartment gathered a black bag and ran to a neighbor’s residence. The victim was transported to Wheaton Franciscan All Saints where medical personnel advised she had a fractured arm.

Officers spoke to the neighbor who showed them where the black bag was, the complaint reads. Officers located inside the bag 2 digital scales, a large baggie containing a large chunk of crack cocaine weighing 28.2 grams, another bag containing chunks of crack cocaine weighing 14.4 grams. Another bag contained 33 individual baggies of crack cocaine weighing 13.2 grams as well as a small bag of powder cocaine. The fourth bag had an amount of 5.4 grams of crack cocaine along with two smaller bags of powder cocaine.
