Man charged in connection with multiple burglaries in Mount Pleasant & Racine.

James Knull 24, of Racine has been charged with four counts of Burglary-Dwelling, Boat or Motor Home, one count of Burglary-Building or Dwelling, Theft-Movable Property-Special Facts, andPossession of Firearm by Felon. He is being held on $20,000 cash bond in connection with these charges. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 20, 2015.

According to the criminal complaint On April 3, 2015, Mt. Pleasant Police took a report of a burglary in the 40 block of Indiana Street. Residents states that when they woke up in the morning on April 3, 2015, they observed that a kitchen window was open with the screen removed, and the back door was wide open, and all parties confirmed that neither was open on the previous evening. An inventory of items taken in the burglary were documented.

On April 13, 2015, Mt. Pleasant Police were dispatched to 6600 block of Greenridge Dr for a report of a burglary while the home had been occupied. An inventory of items were documented.

On April 13, 2015, Mt. Pleasant Police were dispatched to 200 block of Oregon St., with regard to a burglary complaint. At that location, victims stated that they awoke to find that the garage window was open after being shut night before. The victim notified officers what was taken in that burglary and officers observed footprints in the mud that appeared to show someone walking eastbound along the wooden fence in the immediate vicinity of the garage door window that was the point of entry.

On April 13, 2015, Mt. Pleasant Police were dispatched to the 200 S. Indiana St., for a reported burglary complaint. At that location, officers learned that that the victims woke up at approximately 6:00 a.m. to find that the house appeared to have been burglarized. A report was taken to show items taken during that burglary and it was noticed that there were also footprints in the back yard of the residence and damage to a fence.

On April 15, 2015, Mt. Pleasant Police were dispatch to the 5800 block Mt. Vernon Way, for a burglary complaint. The victim he went to sleep at approximately 9:00 p.m. on April 14, nothing within the residence was disturbed. When he awoke at approximately 6:00 a.m. on April 15, and observed that the patio door that had been completely closed on the previous evening had been opened, and remained open when officers arrived. The victim gave a list to police of items taking during the burglary including a Samsung S5 cell phone.

Investigators were able to track the defendant on the stolen phone and obtained video footage from a business in the area of 21st St. and S. Green Bay Rd., as it is the only area business that is open at that time of day. Investigators observed a white Cadillac stop at the business and a white male, approximately 20-30 years of age with a full red/orange beard and thinning hair, wearing black pants and a gray/blue shirt, exit the vehicle and enter Speedway.

According to investigators the defendant was positively identified when comparing the footage to a booking photo, and the defendant according to MPPD records show him as being associated with a white Cadillac Seville.

On May 12, 2015, at approximately 10:00 a.m., officers from both Mt. Pleasant and Racine executed multiple search warrants. Both the defendant and vehicle owner were located at a residence in the 2300 block of Loni Ln., and detained without incident. Investigators found multiple items taken in the burglaries at this location along with another location in the 500 block of Jones Street.

The criminal complaint states that when Investigators read the defendant his Miranda rights and agreed to give a statement. According to reports the defendant denied entering any houses and described his role as “the driver and muscle man.”
