Man charged with 2nd degree reckless homicide after Oct 8th accident

Dartavian D Watson, 20 of Racine, has been charged with 2nd Degree Reckless Homicide, Reckless Driving-Cause Bodily Harm, and two counts of 1st-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety. Bail has been set at $50,000 after he made his initial appearance in Racine Circuit Court. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10-21-2015

According to the criminal complaint, on October 8th Racine Police responded to a serious injury accident at 6th and Mound Ave. Witnesses described the suspect vehicle had traveled south on Mound Ave, failed to stop. Continued to travel swerving then failed to stop at 6th and Memorial continue through the intersection, then striking a building.

Racine Police state that there were 3 parties in the vehicle including the defendant. Police were able to interview one passenger who stated that the defendant had been driving and they had been drinking before the accident. The 3rd person in the vehicle suffered critical injuries, and was taken by Flight For Life to Froedert Hospital where he died from his injuries. Witnesses to the accident did stop to try to help render aid and also told police that they witnessed the vehicle driving very erratically and another witness estimates seeing the vehicle traveling between 60-70 mph.
