Man charged with 5th OWI after hitting a car and almost hitting a house

Drunk-DrivingTravis R Christian, 33 of Racine has been charged with 5th OWI and Operating While Revoked (Rev due to alc/contr subst/refusal) and was given a $7500 cash bond after making his initial appearance in Racine Circuit Court. His Preliminary hearing at 09-10-2015.

According to the criminal complaint, Racine Police responded to the 1500 block of Indiana Ave at 12:55 p.m. regarding a property damage accident. En route police were notified that a witness was chasing the defendant down the block.

Officers arrived on scene and spoke with the witness who told authorities “he observed the defendant crash his vehicle, and began walking away from the scene. The witness stated he began to chase the defendant because he thought “the defendant was trying to leave the scene.” A witness told police that a portion of the incident was recorded on their home surveillance system and turned it over to officers.

Racine Police spoke with the defendant where he allegedly stated that he crashed into a vehicle and almost hit and house and was leaving the scene because bystanders were screaming at him and he was afraid he was going to be assaulted.

While speaking to officers they observed the defendants speech was slurred, his eyes were bloodshot and they detected an odor of intoxicants. When asked by police to submit to a field sobriety test the defendant allegedly told police “What’s the point? I drank a case of beer last night and some more this morning. It’s going to be a waste of time; let’s just get it done with”, the criminal complaint stated

The defendant was transported to Wheaten Franciscan for a blood draw done by medical staff. Officers also noted that his driver’s license had been revoked due to a prior OWI-related incident.
