Man charged with 5th OWI after police notice erratic driving

Drunk-DrivingJames L Craft 57 of Racine has been charged with his 5th OWI. He was given a $5,000 cash bond after appearing in Racine Circuit Courts on Thursday afternoon.

According to the criminal complaint on May 15, 2016 office, changing lanes and speeds quickly, made a slow on wide turn onto Graceland Blvd and then made a Uturn back onto Highway 31. Due to their observations they initiated a traffic stop believing the driver was lost due to observations.

Upon making contact with the defendant. The defendant apologized to police, stated he was lost and had been on his cell phone while driving. The officer observed an odor of intoxicants coming from the vehicle. When asked the defendant stated he had a beer and a wine cooler that evening. He was asked to perform a Field Sobriety Test, which according to results showed impairment. The defendant submitted to a PBT and the results were .11 BAC the criminal complaint reads. The defendant was placed into custody and agreed to provide a blood sample which was sent to the State Crime Lab for testing.
