Man charged with OWI and felony hit and run after striking pedistrian

Valenteeno J. Jones, 23 of Racine has been charged with 1st-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Hit and Run-Involve Injury, Cause Injury/Operate While und.Influence (1st) (PAC<0.15), Operate w/o Valid License(3rd+ w/in3Yrs) and was given a $5,000 cash bond after making his initial appearance in Racine Circuit Court.

According to the criminal complaint on October 8,2015 the Racine Police Department and Racine Fire Department responded to 911 calls for a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival police spoke with witnesses while the victim was being worked on by rescue personnel. Multiple witnesses stated that the suspect vehicle had struck a pole and witness accounts state that the vehicle appeared to swerve to intentionally hit the victim and fled the scene.

Racine Police stopped the vehicle in the 1500 block of Ann Street, residents in the area stated that they heard the vehicle crash into a building and saw the suspect leave on foot. Loose beer cans were located in the vehicle and Officers were able to locate the defendant who according to the complaint, was verbally aggressive, his speech was slurred and his eyes were glassy. The defendant then allegedly made outbursts that he wanted to be transported to jail for his outstanding warrants and began shouting and kicking the inside of the police vehicle. The defendant refused all field sobriety tests and a blood draw so a warrant was obtained. Officers spoke with the owner of the vehicle who stated that the defendant had the car and she did not know where it was.
