The Mount Pleasant Police Department is pleased to announce that we now have a MedReturn Drug Collection Box in our Police Department Lobby. The MedReturn Drug Collection Box provides a safe and easy to use community drug collection device! We are now able to collect any unwanted or expired household medication including prescription and over-the-counter.
The MedReturn Drug Collection Box provides a convenient, safe and environmentally responsible way to dispose of unwanted medications. By properly discarding of unwanted medication we are protecting the environment by keeping drugs out of the waterways and landfills as well as keeping potentially harmful drugs from getting into the wrong hands. The most commonly abused medications are Oxycontin, Percocet, Vicadin, Tylenol with codeine, Ritalin, Xanax, Adderall, Klonopin and cough and cold medicines. Proper disposal of these medications and others can help limit drug abuse. Additionally, a 1999 study found that 80% of streams in the US were contaminated with pharmaceuticals. You should never flush your old medications.
The Mount Pleasant Police Department is able to provide this service due to a partnership with Racine County Youth Coalition and the Central Racine County Health Department.
Village residents and others can simply dispose of medication by just placing it in the MedReturn Box, similar to mailing a letter at a mailbox. Needles or sharps will not be accepted.
The MedReturn Box is located in the Mount Pleasant Police Department lobby and is available for use on weekdays, excluding holidays, from 8am – 6pm.
