On Sunday 10-09-2016 at 04:33am, Mount Pleasant Police Officers were dispatched to a reported single vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on STH 32, north of Chicory road in the Village of Mount Pleasant. Upon arrival, Officers located a 20 year old male Mount Pleasant resident down in the northbound lanes of STH 32, with severe trauma to the head and body from impact with a n/b vehicle, that remained at the scene. The operator of the vehicle was at the scene as well, and was not injured. Officers along with Paramedics with South Shore Fire/Rescue administered emergency medical aid to the male at the scene. The 20 year old male did expire at the scene, and was pronounced deceased by the Racine County Medical Examiners office.
Preliminary investigation of the scene indicated the vehicle was travelling n/b on STH 32 in the right lane of the divided (median) 4 lane highway, approximately .3 mile north of Chicory road. The area does not have street lighting, and is a darkened area of the roadway. The 20 year old pedestrian was in the right traffic lane when struck by the n/b vehicle. The vehicle operator is a 27 year old female Racine resident who was cooperative with Police at the scene. The Crash is still under investigation by Mount Pleasant Traffic Accident Investigators, along with assistance from the Wisconsin State Patrol Technical Reconstruction Unit (TRU) Troopers, who responded to the scene. MPPD was assisted at the scene by Racine Police Department and Racine Sheriffs Department providing traffic control. STH 32 was closed to traffic for approximately 3 hours while Officers/Troopers investigated the Crash Scene. Name of the pedestrian is withheld pending proper notifications.
