Mount Pleasant Police-Pursuit ends in felony charges for driver

mppd1On 8/13/15 at 10:22pm a Mount Pleasant Police Officer was monitoring traffic on Hwy 31 at Biscayne Ave when he observed a vehicle traveling south on Hwy 31 at a high rate of speed. The officer then clocked the red Honda at 80 mph in the posted 35 mph zone. The officer activated his emergency lights and siren in an attempt to catch up to the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, Alex Sugent, 24, of Mount Pleasant, refused to stop for the police vehicle. The officer terminated the pursuit on Wood Rd. Sugent then continued south on Wood Rd. from Taylor Ave. and lost control after he failed to negotiate a left turn onto Hwy KR and crashed into the ditch. Sugent then exited the vehicle with his hands up and was taken into custody without further incident. There were no injuries as a result of this incident.

Sugent had been consuming intoxicants but was not legally intoxicated. He admitted to fleeing to avoid receiving a speeding ticket. He was taken to the Racine County Jail where he was held on the following charges:

1. Feeing and Eluding (felony)
2. Recklessly Endangering Safety-1st Degree (felony)
