On Friday, July 1st, 2016, at 11:03 p.m., Mount Pleasant Police units were dispatched along with the South Shore Fire Department in reference to a House fire that was occurring in the 6600 Block of Durand Avenue in the Village of Mount Pleasant.
Officers upon arrival observed very dark and black smoke emitting from the residence. All of Durand Avenue was shut down by Emergency units while the Structure fire was extinguished by Fire units. During extinguishing of the fire, South Shore Fire Department personnel located a resident deceased inside of the home due to the Fire. Mount Pleasant Police Department personnel already on-scene immediately began an Investigation into this Incident. The name of the deceased person is going to be withheld until proper notification can be made to their family. The Racine County Medical Examiner’s Office was also called to the scene.
This Incident continues to be investigated by the Mount Pleasant Police Department and South Shore Fire Department. The Racine County Fire Investigation Task Force will also assist in the Investigation.-End of Release: Sgt. Jason Vaccaro
