Racine Fire Department quickly handles chemical spill

RFD logoThe Racine Fire Department responded to calls for a chemical leak this afternoon. A semi-truck transporting sodium hydroxide (a corrosive chemical used in the plating process) was discovered leaking at Wisconsin Plating Work’s (620 Stannard Street) receiving docks. Approximately 30 gallons leaked from a 250 gallon square transport container. The Racine Fire Department’s Regional Hazardous Materials Response Team arrived and had the incident quickly under control. No injuries reported. None of the chemical reached the storm drains, so no water was contamined.
