Maurice D Ward, 32 of Racine has been charged with five counts of 1st-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, seven counts of Bail Jumping-Felony, Possess Firearm-Convicted of a Felony and Discharge Firearm/Vehicle-Towards Person (all felony charges). He is being held on $50,000 cash bond after making his initial appearance in Racine Circuit Courts on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the criminal complaint, on August 1, 2016 Racine Police responded for a shots fired call in the 1500 block of West Street. Upon arrival witnesses told officers that they observed the defendant who was a passenger in a vehicle drive by the home several times. A Witness was paying particular attention since the defendant had a disagreement with a relative who was also present outside along with 3 children. Witnesses told police that they observed the defendant with a handgun and then fired a shot towards them. Police recovered a single shell casing in the road.
The defendant was taken into custody to be interviewed and initially denied to Investigators as the person who fired the shot. When confronted the defendant told police where the gun could be located.
