Racine man charged with 8th OWI and Hit and Run

Alan M Lawrence 65 of Mount Pleasant has been charged with OWI (7th, 8th or 9th) and hit and run. He was given a $10,000 cash bond after making his initial appearance Monday in Racine Circuit Court. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 17, 2016.

According to the criminal complaint on March 5,2016, Mount Pleasant Police responded for to Chicory and Highway 32 for a hit and run accident. Upon arrival officers spoke to the victim and witnesses who were present who described the suspect and stated that the victim had been struck by the offending vehicle. Mount Pleasant Police recovered the front license plate of the offending vehicle that was left at the scene.

Officers responded to the defendants address and noticed the vehicle parked in the driveway with damage. When the defendant opened the door officers smelled an odor of intoxicants from the defendant, the defendant’s eyes were glassy, speech was slurred, very unbalanced, and the defendant matched the description of the driver of the offending vehicle. The driver stated that he had not been drinking a home,the complaint reads.

The complaint states that when questioned by officers, he stated that he was not involved in any accident, but he had been driving before. When officers pointed out the fresh damage on the defendants vehicle, the defendant became uncooperative. The defendant was barely able to stand and could not do the field sobriety test. He was placed under arrested for his 8th OWI and transported to Wheaton Franciscan All Saints. The defendant refused to comply with a blood draw so a warrant was obtained. Once medically cleared by hospital staff the defendant was transported to Racine County Jail
