Racine woman charged after trying to cash in fake pull tab ticket

Phyllis Scholz, 57 of Racine has been charged with Theft-False Representation <=$2500 after trying to cash in a fake $100 pull tab ticket. She was given a $1,000 signature bond after making her initial appearance Thursday in Racine Circuit Court.

According to the criminal complaint, Racine Police were dispatched on January 6,2016 to Pepi’s reference a fraud. Dispatch advised officers that a white female woman handed the bartender a fraudulent $100 pull tab. Upon arrival officer spoke with the bartender that the defendant gave her a fraudulent $100 pull tab. According to the reports the bartender discovered that the ticket had been glued together and the serial number on the pull tab was not a winner.

Officers spoke with the defendant who stated that she came in purchased 2 tickets and a beer and that one was a $100 winner. When advised by police that the pull tab was fraudulent, the defendant allegedly told police that she received the pull tab from a friend but would not disclose the name of the friend. She told officers she does not have much money and just wanted a little to help out.
