WHAT: On Saturday, April 23rd, students, Special Olympics athletes and community members will Run with the Cops in a unique 5K night run/walk and kids fun run. The event will take place at UW-Parkside to raise funds for Special Olympics Wisconsin athletes.
Run with the Cops kicks off with registration, coffee and donuts at 6:30 p.m. at the UW-Parkside Student Center. The kids fun run begins at 8:30 p.m. for children 12 and under, followed by a 5K Run/Walk at 9:00 p.m. Glow stations will provide runners with the opportunity to accessorize with glowing apparel. Law enforcement will also be at the event to let people tour police vehicles and take pictures in a jail cell.
Participants need only fundraise $25 to register for this glow crazy event. A costume contest will take place during the event, with the winner being awarded a $25 gift card to Dunkin Donuts. There will also be a prize to the top finisher in a police uniform.
WHO: Approximately 170 community members and Special Olympics athletes will participate in Run with the Cops. Law enforcement officials will provide support at the event by keeping the route lit and glowing for all participants.
WHEN: Saturday, April 23rd, 2016 from 6:30 pm to approximately 9:30 pm.
HOW: The event would not be possible without the support of law enforcement. Members of the UW-Parkside Police Department, Racine County Sheriff Office, Caledonia PD, Kenosha PD, the Law Enforcement Torch Run, and other local law enforcement agencies organized this event to unite the community and raise funds for Special Olympics Wisconsin.
WHY: Run with the Cops provides law enforcement officials and community members the opportunity to come together with Special Olympics athletes to raise funds for Special Olympics Wisconsin.
