Jesus Varela, 17 of Racine has been charged with one count of felony Hit and Run-Involve Injury. He was to make his initial appearance Wednesday afternoon in Racine Circuit Court but it has been postponed to June 8th to obtain legal representation
According to the criminal complaint on Monday April 4, 2016 Mount Pleasant Police responded for a hit and run accident with injuries at 16th and Oakes Road. The victim stated they were driving northbound on Oakes Road, when the suspect vehicle made a left turn directly in front of the victims path. The victim was transported to Wheaten Franciscan for medical treatment.
Officers spoke to a witness who stated that the suspect vehicle made a left turn at a high rate of speed and struck the victim vehicle. The witnesses described the driver and stated there were multiple occupants. Officers with Mount Pleasant Police Department followed a fluid trail from the scene of the accident to Greenbriar Apartments where the suspect vehicle was found. still dripping fluids with fresh damage.
According to the criminal complaint officers contacted the registered owner who stated that another party had possession of the vehicle at that time, officers left a message with that party. Later that day the defendant came into the Mount Pleasant Police Department and made an admission to authorities that he was the driver of the vehicle in the accident and he left the scene.
