Two charged with attempted homicide in connection with shooting 12th & Villa

suspects1 Darius M Byers, 20 of Racine has been charged with and Marco D. Machado, 17 of Racine have been charged with 1st-Degree Intentional Homicide, Armed Robbery with Use of Force, Maintain Drug Trafficking Place. Marco D Machado Jr., 17 of Racine has been charged with attempted 1st-Degree Intentional Homicide, Armed Robbery, Possession of Cocaine/Coca, Possession of THC, and four counts of
Bail Jumping-Misdemeanor. Byers received a $100,000 cash bond during his initial appearance in Racine Circuit Court on Friday afternoon. Machado received a $100,000 bond also

According to the criminal complaint on September 6,2016 Investigators and officers with Racine Police responded for a shooting at 12th and Villa. Officers spoke with the victim who stated that the defendants and victim argued over bond money for another individual and during that argument Byers shot him

The criminal complaint states that the victim had multiple gunshot wounds including, his left chest, his left shoulder, his right and left hip areas, right forearm and right bicep. The victim was taken to Froedert Hospital via Flight for Life.

The defendants were picked from a photo line up and the complaint states that Machado, at the time of the shooting took the keys to the victims vehicle and $500 from him and Byers shot him inside the home at 1224 Villa during the argument. A search warrant executed at a residence in the 1200 block of Villa by the Racine Police Department items recovered were consistent with the shooting in addition to items used in packaging and sales of illegal narcotics and cocaine. During a traffic stop on September 7,2016, Machado was taken into custody and recovered from his person was 3.1 grams of cocaine, 2.1 grams of marijuana and the victims cell phone which was left at the scene of the shooting, according to the criminal complaint issued.
