On July 30th, a structure fire involving an apartment complex located at 500 Shelbourne Ct was discovered shortly after 4:00. Along with the initial dispatched crews additional fire crews were called in because of the size of the fire, size of the building and the heat and humid conditions due to the hot weather. The fire was contained to the east end of the building.
Four families were displaced by the fire and Red Cross was called in to assist the families with temporary housing. Two families had pets that had been removed by fire crews and family. No residents were injured.
One firefighter suffered an injury and one firefighter suffered from heat exhaustion. Both were transported by Racine Fire Department Paramedics to Wheaton Franciscan Hospital. The Racine Fire Bells assisted with a rehab area for the firefighters as well as neighbors offering cold water to the firefighters on scene. The fire is under investigation. According to fire officials the estimated loss at this time is $50,000 and the fire is under investigation
