United Way of Racine County participates in national #GivingTuesday movement for second year
Racine, WI (November 30, 2015) ? On Tuesday, December 1, 2015 (the Tuesday after Thanksgiving), charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give. United Way of Racine County is once again participating in the #GivingTuesday movement to transform how people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season. Coinciding with the Thanksgiving holiday and the kickoff of the holiday shopping season, #GivingTuesday will harness the power of social media and inspire people to take collaborative action to improve their local communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they support and help create a better world.
United Way volunteers and community members are asked to send in photos of how they give back?whether its money, time or talent?which will be posted on the United Way Facebook page on #GivingTuesday. United Way volunteers are involved in the community in numerous ways. We want to share their story, stated Rodney Prunty, president of United Way of Racine County. #GivingTuesday is a great opportunity to highlight the work of our volunteers and promote giving back to our community.
In 2014, the third year of the movement, #GivingTuesday brought together 30,000 partners in 68 countries and registered 32.7 million impressions on Twitter, with its eponymous hashtag mentioned 698,600 times. Since 2012, online giving on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving has increased more than four-fold, based on findings by Blackbaud and the Indiana Universitys Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, produced in partnership with the Case Foundation1. We have been incredibly inspired by the generosity in time, efforts and ideas that have brought our concept for a worldwide movement into reality, said Henry Timms, founder of #GivingTuesday and executive director of 92Y. As we embark on our fourth year of #GivingTuesday, we are encouraged by the early response from partners eager to continue making an impact in this global conversation.
