On December 15, 2012 at about 11:47 P.M., the Racine Police Department responded to a report of a man shot in the 900 block of Grand Avenue. Responding officers located the victim near 10th Street and Center Street, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported by Racine Fire Department Rescue to Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Emergency Room where he died.

Police say a gunman fired into a group of teens and young men, and Larry Steele, 25 was killed. According to media reports neighbors stated that crowds of teens showed up at the nearby Bray Center, where joint birthday parties were taking place.

A neighbor said she heard about four shots just before midnight. She says the gunman was in a car, and the shooter appeared to spray the crowd.

“I guess it was a group of kids outside on the corner, and somebody came through and fired shots into the crowd. It wasn’t meant for like, a specific person. It was meant for whoever was out there,” the witness reports.
