Waukegan woman arrested after trying to cash fraudulent check

handcuffsKeonna N Friar 28 of Waukegan Illinois has been charged with felony Forgery-Uttering, Possession of THC (2nd+ Offense) and Bail Jumping-Misdemeanor. She was given a $7,000 cash bond after making her initial appearance in Racine Circuit Courts Thursday afternoon. A Preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 13, 2016

According to the criminal complaint on July 6,2016 Officers with the Mount Pleasant Police Department were dispatched to Landmark Credit Union located at 6219 Washington Ave. Upon arrival the officer was told by employees that a suspect later identified as the defendant had come to the counter to cash a check for $1,450 with the Landmark logo on it. The employee noticed right away that it was a fraudulent check and notified her manager who verified it wasn’t a real check.

The defendant was detained outside by her vehicle, upon approaching the vehicle officer noticed a strong smell of marijuana. After a search of the vehicle officers recovered 5 grams of marijuana. In a Mirandized interview the defendant allegedly admitted to knowing that something was wrong with the check before trying to cash it and the marijuana was hers.
