1828 – Edward Salomon Born

On this date Wisconsin Governor Edward Salomon was born in Stroebeck, Prussia. Salomon arrived in Wisconsin in 1849 after earning his degree in mathematics and philosophy from the University of Berlin. He was one of the first governors to hold a college degree. In 1862 he was elected lieutenant governor. He became governor when Louis P. Harvey drowned in 1862, thus . He completed his term in 1864. After 1864 he returned to Milwaukee, where he resumed his legal practice. He moved to New York City in 1869, where he became consul for the Prussian government.
