1952 – Ada James Dies

On this date died in her home in Richland Center, at the age of 76. James, a well-known suffrage advocate, was the daughter of Laura James who was one of the founding members of the , which may have been the first suffrage club formed in Wisconsin. Ada James went on to help found the statewide Political Equality League, of which she was president for two years. The Political Equality League merged with the Wisconsin Suffrage Association in 1912, for which James served as vice president. Wisconsin became the , allowing women to vote. James went on to work with and advocate for a variety of causes, including the temperance movement, world peace and pacifism, as well as assistance for underprivileged children. [Source: ]
