Driver cited for OWI in head on crash with semi Saturday morning


RCSOOn March 5, 2016, at 6:15 a.m the Racine County Sheriff’s Department responded to a head on collision between a semi truck with trailer and and an SUV on the I94 N/B on ramp at Highway 11. Caller’s reported the female driver of the SUV was unconscious and trapped in the vehicle.

The SUV driver was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Racine with serious injuries. The operator of the semi initially refused rescue but was later treated for a minor injury

Preliminary investigations by the Racine County Sheriff’s Department showed that the SUV was driving on the I94/NB on-ramp when it crossed over the median striking the semi which was exiting the interstate. The SUV had also been called in as a reckless driver by motorists.

The 36 year-old female with an address listed out of Milwaukee was cited for:

  • Operating a vehicle while intoxicated-1st offense
  • Open intoxicants in a vehicle
  • Operating without a valid drivers license
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • As well as numerous other citations

The Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the State Patrol. The on and off ramps are expected to be open at 10:30 a.m.
