Woman charged after biting Mount Pleasant Police Officer

Christine J Barton, 35 of Racine has been charged with Battery or Threat to Judge, Prosecutor, or Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting or Obstructing an Officer and two counts of Disorderly Conduct. She was given a $500 cash bond after making her initial appearance in Racine Circuit Court. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 5th.

According to the criminal complaint on April 24,2016, Mount Pleasant Police were dispatched to the Knights Inn regarding an intoxicated party. The defendant was placed into custody and transported by South Shore Fire Department to Wheaten Franciscan for medical clearance.

Once transported the defendant was yelling, unruly, not cooperative with hospital staff, was trying to get out of the hospital bed and was becoming combative with hospital staff. Fearing she would injur herself or hospital staff, officers decided to secure her using handcuffs. Still resisting as officers were trying to secure her she thrust her head forward and bit an officer in the finger, the complaint reads. The officer being bitten yelled at the defendant to stop resisting and tried to stop her from continuing to bite him when she said “ok,ok, I’ll stop”.

According to the criminal complaint the officer received medical care at the ER and hospital staff had to give her medication to prevent her from assaulting hospital staff or others.
